Garden Tips and Making Schroon More Beautiful

If you have ever wondered why downtown Schroon and our surrounding public areas look so good with their planted flower boxes, beds  and pots, it ain't the work of fairies. It is however work of the angels of the Schroon Lake Beautification Committee, who take it upon themselves to use their green thumbs to make the public gardens of Schroon grow and glow!

Nancy Harste tells us that committee will begin its planting season in the days ahead. From Nancy:

Got Trash?

They don't call it Spring Cleaning for nothing -- however, it's gonna cost you a few bucks if you wanna dump certain items off at the Schroon Dump this coming weekend. Dubbed officially as "The Town of Schroon Clean Up Weekend" (May 18th and 19th 2013) it will cost you to dispose of large tires 14" -- 20" ($3.00 a piece ) and all larger tires $25.00 a piece

It will cost you $5 to dump refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners.

The Health Of Our Lake

With our lake beckoning to us come use it  -- with more and more boats and docks appearing each week --  it won’t be long before we will be swimming, skiing and doing all sorts of fun, aquatic activities in this dreamy body of water.

And before the year gets away from us, we want to share with you the 2012 reports of both the Schroon Lake Association, and the East Shore Schroon Lake Association, on their joint efforts to rid the lake of invasive species.

For the uninitiated, both associations, the towns that ring Schroon Lake, good citizens and both Essex and Warren Counties, have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars protecting our lake from invasives, the chief culprit: Eurasian Milfoil.

WHO WON THE ICE OUT?

We’ve had several emails asking us about who won the annual Town of Schroon Lions Club Annual Ice Out contest and what the prize money was. Well, here are the “official results”.

First Place of $616.20 went to Tom Davis who had picked 11:30 am (a difference of 11 minutes). Second Place of $308.10 went to Kevin Lavarnway who had picked 11:06 am (a difference of 13 minutes)
