Weekend Weather: Good News, Bad News

This weekend's forecast appears to be a mixed bag. While there is plenty of sun, there's a real possibility that thunderstorms could put a bit of a damper on all of those outdoor activities we've got planned for the unofficial start to summer.   What are your plans and will you let Mother Nature rain on your parade? tell us in comments.

Look What The Flood Washed Up...

Gotta love the many uses of Craigslist. We recently came across the above photo, posted in early May, with the following description:

"The flood brought a fishing shanty to my beach over in Adirondack. It has a blue tarp roof".

We hope by now the shanty and owner have been reunited. Got a story to share about your flood experience? Tell us about it in comments.

Spring At Gull Pond

This was the scene at Gull Pond over Easter Weekend snapped during a hike. There was still a little snow on the ground and it was very muddy underfoot. This is a very easy walk for all levels, during all seasons and the view is stunning. In the summer take a dip.

White Water Warriors

The record high water level, caused by a combination of the ice melt and torrential rains, will most likely mean a wild weekend at the 54th annual White Water Derby in North Creek this weekend.

In fact, Adirondack Life Magazine suggests that the high water may be “intimidating” to some paddlers. The magazine’s current issue has a look at the waves within the Hudson’s white water rafting community.

This weekend’s action kicks off Friday at North Creek with live music a 5pm. Saturday features Slalom races and Sunday the Downriver Race. The Derby coincides with the 2nd Annual Adirondack Adventure Festival, a celebration of a new season of activities and outdoor adventures available throughout the Gore Mountain region. The festival is family friendly with dozens of events including Kayak Demos, a bounce house,  free rafting on the Hudson and fly fishing demos, to name just a few of the activities.

What Floats Your Boat?

Boats are supposed to float, right  -- but not those on blocks in storage for the winter. The weekend floods caused that to happen to some pontoon boats on blocks at the Schroon Lake Marina, says owner Craig Kennedy.

"Yeah, it was pretty crazy up here, well it still is," Craig told Schroon Laker. The showroom had about 18 inches of water.  "The great clean up has begun"

We wish Craig and everyone impacted by the floods all the best with their clean up efforts.
