White Water Warriors

The record high water level, caused by a combination of the ice melt and torrential rains, will most likely mean a wild weekend at the 54th annual White Water Derby in North Creek this weekend.

In fact, Adirondack Life Magazine suggests that the high water may be “intimidating” to some paddlers. The magazine’s current issue has a look at the waves within the Hudson’s white water rafting community.

This weekend’s action kicks off Friday at North Creek with live music a 5pm. Saturday features Slalom races and Sunday the Downriver Race. The Derby coincides with the 2nd Annual Adirondack Adventure Festival, a celebration of a new season of activities and outdoor adventures available throughout the Gore Mountain region. The festival is family friendly with dozens of events including Kayak Demos, a bounce house,  free rafting on the Hudson and fly fishing demos, to name just a few of the activities.
