Art In The Park

We can’t think of a more perfect way to spend a Schroon Saturday afternoon than wandering through the town park, looking at artful masterpieces, while being serenaded by the magical sounds of the harp.

That’s what you can do today at the Visual Arts and Music in Park celebration from 1 pm. Harpist Martha Gallagher will perform in the park between 2 pm  - 4 pm and the cool sounding Modern Grass Quartet kicks it up in the Boat House from 5 pm – 7 pm. Area artists will be showing their works, so swing by and pick up some art for your lake house or a gift to take back home. The event is sponsored by the Schroon Lake Arts Council.

'Shake It' This Sunday At Scaroon Manor...

Tara Bradway, ADK Shakes Executive director, with some of the company at a performance Thursday.

This just in…The Adirondack Shakespeare Company has just got the green light to stage a show this Sunday at the old Scaroon Manor site, moving their Schroon Lake premiere forward by several weeks.

ADK Shakes, as the company is known, calls Schroon home for the summer. Executive director Tara Bradway got the news last night from the New York DEC. From Tara:

This brand new performance on Sunday is wonderful for us. The DEC contacted us to hang up posters at the Manor and at the camping grounds at Eagle Point. Campers have been asking about the shows that are going on. We suggested to them that we come on over to do a show this weekend! Sunday was our very last date available in our touring calendar, and people have been asking for a Complete Works performance in Schroon sooner than the end of July -- so we have delivered!

The Art of Artisans

Schroon Lake has a new addition to its ever growing art scene with a new weekly art fair.

Today is the second installment of the fair, which showcases the works of local artisans. The idea came from Mickey Abbott, an established ceramic artist, who has called Schroon Lake home for more than  20 years.

“I have traveled extensively to arts and crafts shows all over the country, and I got to see what local communities offered artists,” Mickey told Schroon Laker.

“I thought why not have a weekly event in Schroon Lake?”

Mickey went before the Town with the idea last year. “They really liked it”.

Mickey says she got an “excellent” response from both artists and the public at their first outing last week.

Today’s artists and crafters include Anna Hay and her customized collection of hooded towels and hand painted apparel, Scott Phillips and his eye popping log furniture, Lorraine Erikson and her crochet and knitted gifts and Mickey’s very cool looking one of a kind hand fired and painted ceramics.

Arts Fair. Town Hall. 10 am  - 4 pm. Every Thursday until September 1.
