You Really Quack Me Up

Did you see this duck quacking at you in the July 4th parade?  Meet “Ducky”, the official Mascot of the Schroon Lake Association. The group was just named the organization of the year by the SL Chamber of Commerce.

The volunteers behind The Schroon Lake Association – celebrating 100 years of service this year – are the reason we can enjoy our pristine lake.

And Ducky wants to get the word out early about the annual Schroon Lake Association Fifth annual Duck Race Fundraiser, coming up on September 4.

Hundreds of plastic ducks will be released into Mill Creek near the bridge on Main Street and will race to the finish where the creek flows into Schroon Lake.

For $5 you can sponsor a duck and have at shot at the top cash prize of $100 if your adopted duck finishes first. ($75 and $50  for 2nd the 3rd place finishers).

Look for special adoption centers around town and at the Association’s booth at their Annual Arts and Crafts Fair on Saturday, July 16.

For additional information or to adopt a duck call 518 532-0202.

What A Day!

Picture perfect weather, red white and blue everywhere, a shower of candy, and thousands of smiling, happy people made this a Schroon Lake July 4th to remember.

Whether you celebrated at the beach, town park or threw your own party, Schroon embraced Independence Day with gusto, before a very Patriotic parade and eye popping fireworks.

Jockeying for prime seats for the parade began early in the day, with chairs placed in the top spots all along Main Street, making parking a little more challenging. We witnessed a stand-off outside Timberwolf ‘s when an SUV driver discovered a perfect spot, only to be thwarted by a woman putting three chairs in his path.

Smokey deliciousness filled the air, from both the Schroon Lake Community Church barbecue chicken lunch, to Mr P’s Smokehouse just up the Road.

All day long the music blasted from the stage at the Town Park. The Lion’s club served up thousands of hot dogs , there were lines out the door at Stewarts  and restaurants were packed.
