Beer Here (Almost)...What Schroon Will Be Drinking This Summer

Founder of the new Paradox Brewery Paul Mrocka, hopes his new venture will not only bring new jobs to the area, but help grow Schroon as well.

“Maybe we can grow this town here. Folks get off exit 27 and they see a brewery and they go wow, what’s going on with this town? They see a restaurant down the road, what else is going on? Maybe the brewery turns the experience (of a visitor here) into something a little bit different”.

So what beers will the brewery be serving up and how do you get it? Find out in Part Two of our story on the behind the scenes of what it takes to open a brewery right here in Schroon,  in our Food and Drink section.

Schroon Lake Fire Department Open House

Every year Schroon’s Fire Department – made up exclusively of volunteers – answers more than 120 calls to help those in need. From car wrecks, to boat fires on the lake, full blown dwellings ablaze, to false alarms, these dedicated men and women are at the ready.

The event has a two-fold purpose: it’s part of a state wide effort to attract volunteers and also to give residents an up close look at the gear, equipment, drills and trucks the Schroon Lake Fire Department uses. The day kicks off with a free breakfast at 10 am.

Schroon Mystery Solved!

Joe Steiniger, our friend and fellow blogger and Schroon Laker, who knows a thing or two about boats, fish and chicken, solved the mystery for us. Writes Joe:

They are trolling for salmon. Best spots are near streams, inlets and at the mouth of the Schroon River. The salmon are chasing spawning smelt running upstream.

Honoring Our Local Heroes

DeCesare Pizza owners Deb and Alan have come up with a unique way to honor area war vets, both past and present. They want to display photographs under the glass at the tables of their restaurant, to reminder everyone of what these brave men and women have done for us.

"Alan and I started talking about the idea for a couple of months now," Deb wrote to us.
