Whatya Doin' This Long Weekend?

The ski tow is open for business all weekend, there are free activities and movies at the Town Hall Saturday courtesy of the Schroon Lake Library, and good eats around town.

Over at Gore Mountain on Sunday starting at dusk, there is a free fireworks show, with a live band  -- Dirt Cheap -- at their Tannery Pub.

And as the lake continues to freeze, more and more fishermen and women are looking for a big catch

Skating on Thin and Thick Ice

Our post below -- "Risky Business?" which dealt with warm temperatures and ice coverage on our lake last weekend -- sparked quite a conversation on the Schroon Lake Facebook Page -- where we linked to our story. Local Tony Tenda, who has been walking on Schroon Lake's ice fore more than 30 years, posted what thickness and what weight ice on lakes will hold.

Risky Business?

A few brave souls were out on the ice just after 12 noon today, about 300 feet from the Schroon Town boat launch. With temps forecast to hit the mid-40s today, we can't imagine how much longer the ice will hold.
