Real Tweets About Fake Schroon Lake Disaster Under Review

The Syracuse University journalism class assignment, where graduate students reported from a press conference with real time Tweets about a fake hotel collapse at Schroon Lake, is under review.

Last week we reported how the Twitter world that follows Schroon Lake was buzzing when several tweets described a devastating storm that caused a  “Lakeside Hotel” to collapse leaving four people and a baby trapped, and 10,000 people without power.

Jon Glass, the Collaborative Media Room General Manager who taught the class, told Schroon Laker that Schroon Lake has been used as the real town in this exercise for more than ten years.

Don’t Be Square – Dance!

If you haven’t checked out Schroon Lake’s weekly Square Dance, what are ya waiting for? We were there last week and the smiles on the faces of dancers said it all -- everyone was having a terrific time. Don’t think that you have to be a graduate of the Fred Astaire Dance Academy to join in. The fine callers make this an easy and fun experience. Town Park (or Boathouse if the weather is not co-operating) at 7pm.

Golden Oldies, Doo Wop in Schroon Tonight

Travel back in time tonight when the a cappella Doo Wop group Flipsydz perform golden oldies at the Boat House.

Flipsydz, (Flipsides) will bring a “a little bit of the Bronx”, to the lake, according to the Schroon Lake Arts Council, who organized the concert. The group, whose members include accomplished operatic singers, choral members and solo artists, will perform some of the best loved rock n roll songs from the 1950s and 1960s.

We are thinking fans of the Jersey Boys, will be right at home tonight. Showtime is at 8 pm in the BoatHouse – not under the street lights. For info call 518-532-9295.
