Anyone For Tennis?

Of the many Schroon Lake summer traditions, the annual Tennis Tournament attracts a lot of attention. And this year was no different, as players battled the heat and each other. Play took place last Monday through Friday, with the finals on Saturday. A picnic and awards ceremony followed. Organizer Barbara Storace said this year’s tournament was one of the best.

“It was great fun this year and we had many new participants; one family being the van Windens!,” Barabra told Schroon Laker. See how the van Windens and all the players faired after the jump. Did you play this year? Tell us about your experience in comments.

Smiling, Happy, Farmers

Why are all the produce vendors smiling at Monday’s Farmer’s Market?

Maybe its because they know that you’ll love what they grow, make or bake. That’s the case with Andrea Connor (above) who takes meticulous care in making jams, that will have you asking Oliver style: “Please Sir, can I have some more.”

And you can discover if your gonna like what you see by trying a sample – a little like holding hands before committing to a date.

Kayaking For Kicks

We seem to be on a kayak kick recently, with a post about a kayaking dog and featuring an arty shot of a kayak in a recent Photo Of The Week posting. If you’ve never tried kayaking, then it’s something that should be on your bucket list. And there’s no better place to take your first spin than on our very own Schroon Lake or Schroon River.

Schroon Lake Marina and the Towne Store both have kayaks and paddles to rent. If you are in the market to buy one, I highly recommend this model, which I’ve been using since Father’s Day.  It’s very easy for one person to manage, offers a stable and comfortable ride, and zips through the water. The adjustable foot pegs makes this a kayak for most sizes. The padded seat back makes for a comfortable trip.
