It wouldn’t be Christmas in Schroon without the dozens of private homes and businesses that take it up a notch with their colorful and creative decorations.

And once again this year the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Annual Christmas Decorating Contest.

And they are looking for a few good elves to help in the judging of the contest, Rosemarie Ritson, from the Chamber, tells us.

Schroon Lake’s Spectacular Christmas Celebration

Organizers of Schroon Lake’s 26th traditional Annual Olde Tyme Christmas have outdone themselves with an entirely retooled and revamped celebration.

Organizers have produced a wide and varied range of activities adding a petting zoo, several live music events and multiple craft activities for kids to the classic daylong event on Saturday, December 8th!

Headlining -- as always -- will be the arrival of Santa on a Fire Truck at The Strand, following the traditional tree lighting ceremony and live Nativity walk to Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

“We are really pleased with this year’s events,” one oof the organizers, Patti Mehm told Schroon Laker. “Everyone came together to make this work. It’s great to see so many people volunteer their time and efforts”.

Schroon Lake And TV’s Jeopardy: A Love Affair!

Our beloved Schroon Lake was again featured last night  on TV’s Jeopardy quiz show, just a few short months of its debut in June. 

 The above screen grab was captured by Schroon Laker and loyal Jeopardy fan Adam Friedman.

Adam tells us that the question which provided Schroon Lake (and Chautaugua Lake) as the answers came up in the Double Jeopardy Round under the category “States By Lake”.

The question was “What is New York?.  Adam was able to capture the screen grab of the answer using his trusty TiVo.

The Dogs Are Coming To Schroon

We have more details to share about the big Sled Dog Weekend coming to Schroon in February. As we have previously reported the Pennsylvania Sled Dog Club has chosen Schroon Lake for their 2013 event. Mushers and dogs from all over the North East will descend upon Schroon beginning Friday, February 8^th though Sunday, February 14.

On Friday night there will be Meet the Mushers events at area restaurants. The times for the races are Saturday: 9 am to 4 pm and Sunday: 9 am to 4 pm, followed by a trophy presentation.
