Cafe Grand Union?

Schroon Lake has another outlet for caffeine junkies out for a fix: our local Grand Union. Two sets of picnic tables recently popped up, one right in front of the deli counter and one -- oddly we might add -- in front of beer selection.

"The new owners (Buffalo based Tops Friendly Markets)are trying different things," the gal working the deli-counter told us as we grabbed some muenster cheese.

The coffee served comes from a Kureig coffee machine at the end of the beer cooler.

Meteor Hits Schroon Lake...in 1880

Chili Winners

About 150 chili fans showed up at the 2nd Annual Schroon Lake Chili Cook Off at the Fish and Game Club today, making the event a "huge success", according to organizer Shelby Davis.

A record 14 chilis were entered in the cook off, with all proceeds going to the Schroon Lake EMS. The Fish and Game Club was a new venue for the cook off, after last year's debut event was held at the Mountainside Bible Auditorium.

"It was an awesome venue, totally suited to the event," Shelby said. "The space felt very Adirondacky, folks were able to buy a beer to have with their chili and it had an intimate feel."

And here, drum roll please, are the winners of the 2013 Cook Off.

People's Choice Award

1st Place: Fran Ramirez, Schroon Lake EMS, Great Bowls of Chili

2nd Place: Ruthie Peterson, Hot Stuff 21 (Last year's winner!)

3rd Place: Frank Meade, Pottersville Volunteer Fire Department

Live From The Schroon Lake - North Hudson Poker Run 2013

About 75 riders took part in Saturday's Schroon Lake North Hudson Snowmobile Poker Run --  and according to organiser and Club president Dwayne Anderso --  had a whole lot of fun.

"Our former town Supervisor Cathy Moses summed it up by saying; 'If they come, they will have fun'. She also rode," Dwayne told us via text message.
