Why The Schroon Broadband Grant Is So Important

Schroon Laker Beti Spangel spells out exactly what the recent New York State grant to get  broadband service to the greater Schroon area will mean for her and her fledgling  business, in this excellent piece she penned for the farming blog, Social Solo. Writes Beti:

"Not only will this be a boon to all local businesses, it will enable local farms to have better service and communication with their customers. Farms in the more rural areas will be able to have more affordable and dependable Internet service, letting them reach more customers and increase the profitability of their farms".

Simply put, the new grant will mean the difference between success or failure for many businesses. And if there was ever a time for a small business to have access to the tools they need to succeed, it's right now.

"For small startups like myself, faster Internet means a lifeline of being able to network and communicate more readily with other agricultural folks.

James Bond Coming To Schroon Lake

As always, there’s a ton to do this weekend in Schroon and the North Country. It’s the last days of skiing at Gore Mountain, with much of the mountain still open, as well as free movies and kids activities in town.

Artemis Is Found!

Call it a miracle, call it what you want, but the missing dog story we have been tracking for the last 48 hours has a happy ending. Artemis -- the part Great Dane -- has been found, we have heard from owner Jessie Gallipoli 

"We don't know what happen she just showed up on our porch last night."

Get Your Garden Growing in Schroon

While the snow has barely melted off the raised beds at the Community Garden, now is the time to reserve your spot. Organizer Sharon Piper writes:

"We are now taking reservations for garden plots for the 2013 growing season. Please contact the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce to confirm your plot. The rate is $15.00 for the season and includes use of all tools and water".
