Get Down Tonight With Boréal Tordu

To get you in the mood for tonight's Boréal Tordu concert at the Boat House, play the above You Tube video. The band, which hails from Maine with a French connection via Canada --  has an infectious sound, heavy on the fiddle, which will make you want to get up and dance (hopefully), or at least tap your toes.

So how did Boréal Tordu get their unique sound? A few years back fiddler Steve Muise and singer Robert Sylvain discovered they shared a passion for the music of their shared Acadian heritage. While signs of their parents' French culture can still be found in Maine, it was almost lost to their generation, after years of forced assimilation. More than a revival, their music represents a continuation of musical traditions passed down from the Acadians, the Québécois, and the unique French-speaking people of the the Republic of Madawaska and milltowns all over New England.

Golden Oldies, Doo Wop in Schroon Tonight

Travel back in time tonight when the a cappella Doo Wop group Flipsydz perform golden oldies at the Boat House.

Flipsydz, (Flipsides) will bring a “a little bit of the Bronx”, to the lake, according to the Schroon Lake Arts Council, who organized the concert. The group, whose members include accomplished operatic singers, choral members and solo artists, will perform some of the best loved rock n roll songs from the 1950s and 1960s.

We are thinking fans of the Jersey Boys, will be right at home tonight. Showtime is at 8 pm in the BoatHouse – not under the street lights. For info call 518-532-9295.

Art In The Park

We can’t think of a more perfect way to spend a Schroon Saturday afternoon than wandering through the town park, looking at artful masterpieces, while being serenaded by the magical sounds of the harp.

That’s what you can do today at the Visual Arts and Music in Park celebration from 1 pm. Harpist Martha Gallagher will perform in the park between 2 pm  - 4 pm and the cool sounding Modern Grass Quartet kicks it up in the Boat House from 5 pm – 7 pm. Area artists will be showing their works, so swing by and pick up some art for your lake house or a gift to take back home. The event is sponsored by the Schroon Lake Arts Council.
