More Snow For The Poker Run = More Fun!

Tuesday night’s snow was surely welcomed by the riders participating in this weekend’s Schroon-North  Hudson Snowmobile Club’s Annual Poker Run.

In previous years Mother Nature has not been kind to the event -- with riders confronted by large sections of exposed rocks -- but organizer Dwayne Anderson hopes this year’s Run will be different.

“The more snow we get the better,” Dwayne told Schroon Laker.

Dwayne said this year’s run goes as far north as Dave Whitty’s business on Route 74 to Pottersville to the south.

"This year’s Run will be a good way to advertise our new, connecting trials to Pottersville,” Dwayne said. The trails were the culmination of “a lot of work” between club members, the DEC and the APA. Dwayne said the purpose of the Poker Run was to promote the sport and bring families together.

“The emphasis is on this being a great family day out.”

Riders will cover about 60 miles over the day. The run starts at the Schroon Lake Fire House with registration starting at 9am.

Riders will be given a sheet to be stamped by businesses and organizations on the course.Prizes will be awarded back at the Fire House after the run.

Dwayne hopes the Poker Run will bring first time riders to Schroon and the local economy will get a boost.

“With riders in town they will spend money on accommodations, local businesses, restaurants and pubs”.

For more information on the run call Dwayne at 518-532-9347.
