Tales From Schroon Lake

Barbara Davoll, a local author of more than 50 children’s books – many set in Schroon Lake -- died recently in Connecticut. She was 72.

Barbara’s popular series of Tales From Schroon Lake books, which helped teach a generation of children valuable life lessons, died of congestive heart failure, reported the Poststar on Sunday.

Raised in a Christian home, Barb accepted Christ at the age of eight and dedicated her life to the Lord as a teenager. She moved to Schroon Lake in the mid 1970s with her husband Roy to join the Word Of Life Ministry. She moved to Connecticut two years ago. Her daughter Linda Walsh said her mom wanted to "make it possible for kids to connect with God without a lot of religious speak" From The Poststar:

Barbara was born and raised in the "wilds" of West Virginia. It wasn’t until the family was living in Kentucky in 1972 that Barbara wrote a play about the life of Word of Life co-founder Harry Bollback and received positive feedback for her efforts.

Suddenly a new world opened up to her. The Davoll family moved to the Schroon Lake region a few years later and Barbara wrote and directed "Ring the Bells" and "Let Freedom Ring," theater productions that she and Bollback took on tour around the country for the Word of Life ministries.
