Stewart’s Ice Cream Recall Melts Profits

Schroon Lake’s Stewart’s was doing a brisk business last Memorial Day weekend, with seemingly no impact from their May 27 recall of  more than 100,000 gallons of ice-cream.  The ice-cream was recalled when Stewart’s discovered metal pieces broke off from a mixer blade during a recent production run. Company president Gary Dake says the recall would be expensive.  From The Business Review:

Dake said it cost about $500,000 to make the ice cream. “Obviously, there was a lot of labor associated with this,” Dake said. The company is calculating how much it spent in labor to collect, inventory and transport the ice cream.
