Imagine this: The year is 1951, you are a camper at the the Word Of Life Island retreat, it's a gorgeous sunny day, the perfect time for a spin on a water cycle on Schroon Lake.

Water cycle? We have never seen such a contraption until we spotted this postcard recently on Ebay.

We were kinda bummed that the caption on the back tells us nothing about this unique way to get around the lake. It reads:

"Word of Life Camp is in the northern part of picturesque Schroon Lake, opposite the town of Schroon Lake Village. Twenty two permanent buildings on this large island, formerly a millionaire’s estate, are surrounded by richly timbered woods, lawns and flower gardens".

Have you ever been on a water cycle? Tell us in comments. Also, we have an update to our Throwback Thursday picture of last week, which featured the original Schroon Lake Pharmacy.

Patti Mehm, owner of the Towne Store, writes us:

"That photo for the pharmacy from last week is  actually a picture of the Towne Store, before it was the Towne Store and The Schroon Lake Department Store. I have a few similar photos, some of their gift boxes and supplies and a whole bunch of the old apothecary draws from the old display cases."

"I keep saying I am going to make a display of some of the memorabilia I have, it is pretty extensive.... time just seems to get away from me every year!"

Indeed. Got an idea for a Throwback Thursday story? Tell us in comments.
