Retired Army Captain Jeff Struecker will be the special guest speaker at today's World of Life Memorial Day Concert at 11 am, in Pottersville.
Today we honor the true meaning of this holiday weekend. Our war veterans from every singe service branch and theatre of war. Here is a round up of services in our area.
Schroon Lake
10 am. Ceremony at Schroon Lake Veteran’s Memorial Wall
9:30 a.m. Annual parade and service. Participants will line up at the Old Middle School on River Road and the parade will step off at 10 a.m, the parade will proceed to the Pottersville firehouse.
North Warren High School band, floats and community organizations will participate. American Legion Post No. 964 and VFW Post No. 5513 will conduct memorial ceremonies at the firehouse. North Warren student Amelia Robbins will sing a patriotic selection and Creative Opportunity Preschool will sing a selection.
Word of Life annual Memorial Day Concert
11 a.m. Word of Life annual Memorial Day celebration will begin with a patriotic, God and country concert at Jack Wyrtzen Center on River Road. Featured speaker will be retired Retired Army Captain Jeff Struecker, author of numerous best sellers inclduing Hide and Seek: A Novel. The captain served in the Army and retired as a chaplain with more than 22 years in active federal service. Struecker’s combat experience includes participation in the invasion of Panama, Operation Desert Storm, Black Hawk Down in Somalia, and several tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. Admission is free, and early arrival is suggested.
