Among those who have contributed to making the Adirondacks what they are today, Grace Hudowalski, stands tall as a spunky, inspirational trailer blazer.

Grace, who kept a camp at Schroon Lake for most of her life, was an avid hiker who summited all 46 Peaks and helped establish the Adirondack 46ers.

Before her passing in 2006, she made sure to reach out to more than 4,500 46ers.  Her great joys were her love of mountains, young people and good writing.

Grace’s legacy is celebrated in the annual writing conmpetition established in her name. The winners of the essay contest, which can be about any Adirondack related subject, will be announced today at the Boat House.  This years contest received 22 entries covering such diverse subjects as Frontier Town, rattle snakes, acid rain and the Seagle Music Colony.

When and Where: Today, Sunday, June 19 at the Schroon Lake Boat House at 3 pm.
