If you ever want to give thanks for the precious jewel we all know and love as Schroon Lake, there’s one organization that you should be forever grateful to: The Schroon Lake Association. And this week the SLA was recognized as the organization of the year, by the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce.
The SLA -- which this year celebrates 100 years of service - is the single reason we have our Lake today. The group came about when developers wanted to flood the area and make a dam. From The Chamber of Commerce:
The SLA is a very dedicated organization that helps to maintain the water quality of our lake, works to eradicate invasive plants and helps support the quality of life for those that live in Schroon Lake. They worked so that the Schroon Lake Watershed Management Plan was developed to help protect the lake.
Members of the SLA and the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce celebrated the award at a dinner at Witherbee’s Carriage House on Tuesday, where guests feasted on several dishes including fresh Roasted Angus Prime Rib, Rosemary Chicken and Cedar Plank Salmon. We were told by a guest that the food was “really, really good” The SLA has big plans to celebrate their centenary and we will be blogging about them throughout the summer.
